Webbing, paper and film: from rolls to cut pieces

A strap blank, printed ribbon, sheet of paper and bubble-wrap pad need different feed and cutting setups. We separate narrow-strip cutting from wide roll-to-sheet processing, then match the blade, support, roll width and finished edge to your actual material.

StepEquipmentWhy it's needed
1. Define material and end shape Roll sample and finished-strip drawing Identify material, width, thickness or bubble height, elasticity and the required end or sheet shape.
2. Guide and feed the roll Guided feeding matched to the cutting station Keep the strip aligned and agree how elastic material is measured after it relaxes.
3A. Pneumatic-blade route Pneumatic webbing cutter WM-597Get a quote for WM-597 → A pneumatic-blade route for material up to 80 mm wide. Confirm the required cut-edge finish on your sample.
3B. Hot-cut route Hot and cold webbing cutter WM-577Get a quote for WM-577 → An alternative for 1–160 mm wide material when the approved edge requires hot cutting; confirm the setting on a sample.
3C. Ultrasonic route Ultrasonic shape cutter WM-596Get a quote for WM-596 → An alternative for suitable webbing up to 70 mm wide, with straight, angled or dovetail ends and matched tooling.
3D. Wide paper and film route Roll-to-sheet cutter WM-601Get a quote for WM-601 → An alternative for roll-fed film, paper and bubble wrap up to 600 mm wide; confirm feeding, bubble condition and cut quality on your material.
3E. Cut printed ribbon to the mark Positioning ribbon cutter WM-580Get a quote for WM-580 → A dedicated route when the cut must follow the printed repeat rather than a fixed feed length alone.
4. Inspect and collect Length, edge and registration checks Check the agreed relaxed length, fraying or edge condition, print position and any compression or feed marks before counting or stacking.

Watch textile and bubble-film cutting

One demonstration shows webbing end profiles; the other shows bubble-film feeding, cutting and finished pieces. We confirm the appropriate route with your actual material.

Ribbon and webbing feed through the cutting station; finished strips show straight, notched and rounded end profiles.

Cold, hot and ultrasonic are alternative routes

Choose the edge your next operation needs. Cold cutting avoids a heated cutting process but does not fuse textile yarns at the edge. A hot blade or ultrasonic route can cut and seal compatible textile material with matched tooling. For paper and bubble-wrap pads that need cut pieces rather than sealed edges, start with a suitable unheated roll-to-sheet route. We compare fraying, edge hardness, discoloration and material deformation on the sample. Our cutting-method guide covers the textile choices.

Give wide paper and bubble wrap their own feed route

Roll width is the first capacity check, not the finished sheet length. Our film and paper cutter WM-601 covers up to 600 mm width; our cold-knife roll-to-sheet cutter WM-5270 lists 700 mm; our wide cold-knife cutter WM-604 lists 800 mm. We confirm thickness or bubble height, roll support, feeding pressure, cut length and usable output on your stock. The listed width does not establish compatibility with every paper, coating or film construction.

Elastic length and printed position need separate checks

For elastic webbing, agree the measurement condition before judging length variation. Check it after relaxation rather than under the feeder tension; our elastic-webbing guide covers that comparison. For printed ribbon, send a roll showing the repeat and registration mark. Our print-registration guide explains why a correct feed length can still put the cut in the wrong place. The positioning cutter WM-580 is a separate choice for that job.

Match the strip blank to its downstream use

Show whether the cut piece will be sewn, folded, bonded, wrapped around a product or fitted with a buckle. Textile end profiles and printed repeats require different checks from paper squareness or bubble condition. Use our tube, strip and sheet cutting category to compare the routes. If the task is applying adhesive tape around a cable bundle, use our wire-harness taping equipment. For adhesive-backed stock, send the liner and adhesive construction so we can assess the cutting configuration.

Webbing, paper and film cutting questions

Does a cold knife stop webbing from fraying?

Cold cutting separates the material without heat-sealing it. Whether that edge is acceptable depends on the fiber and next operation. Send a sample and show the required finish so we can compare a cold, hot or ultrasonic route.

Can one machine make every end shape?

The end profile depends on the machine and tooling. Our shape-cutting route WM-596 lists straight, angled and dovetail ends for suitable webbing up to 70 mm wide. Send the exact end drawing, width and thickness; we confirm the configuration rather than assuming every cutter makes the same profile.

How do we keep the cut aligned with printed ribbon?

Send a roll with the printed repeat and registration mark, plus the required cut position. We assess the positioning cutter WM-580 for that route. Width and material suitability are confirmed in the quotation and sample trial.

What should a roll-material cutting inquiry include?

Send the material and coating, roll width, thickness or bubble height, finished length, tolerance and shape. For textiles, note elasticity, print registration and permitted edge condition. For paper or film, include flatness and compression requirements, reel dimensions and batch quantities.

Can a narrow webbing cutter also cut paper and bubble wrap?

Material name alone is not enough. The roll must fit the feed path, and its thickness, bubble height, stiffness and required edge must suit the cutting setup. We assess wide stock on the 600 mm route WM-601, the 700 mm cold-knife route WM-5270 or the 800 mm route WM-604. We confirm the finished piece and working output on your material.
