My leads are loose single wires, not sheathed cable — is this still the right machine?

No — the WM-394 is built around sheathed multi-core cable. For discrete single wires that need crimping plus heat-shrink sleeves, the WM-389 covers 0.3–5 mm² wire and adds inline laser marking; if your sheathed cable needs a tinned end instead of a sleeved crimp, look at the WM-391.
