Tube Cutting Defects: Causes and Corrective Actions
Troubleshoot angled cuts, crushed tube, burrs, stringing, length drift, corrugated-tube splitting errors and feed slippage.

Tube-cutting defects often come from interaction between material recovery, feed control and tooling. Calibrating length cannot correct a slipping feed path, and increasing clamp pressure can make a soft-tube deformation problem worse.

Correct from material supply to finished cut
- Identify material, OD, ID, wall, lot and storage condition.
- Let flexible samples relax using the agreed measurement method.
- Inspect payoff drag, inlet guides, feed belts or rollers and clamp pressure.
- Inspect blade type, edge, alignment and full stroke.
- Run consecutive parts at one setpoint before applying compensation.
- Correct one source variable and repeat short and long lengths.
- Approve end condition, length distribution and debris requirement together.

Why does flexible tube length change after cutting?
Feed pressure can stretch soft tube, while reel memory and elastic recovery change the relaxed length. Define a conditioning and measurement method before adjusting compensation.
What causes a tube end to be angled?
Possible causes include poor lateral support, blade misalignment or wear, tube curvature, feed slip and movement during cutting. Check the material path and clamping before changing length calibration.
When should the blade be replaced?
Use a validated limit based on burr, cutting force, end deformation and consecutive-part quality. A time or cycle count is useful only after it has been correlated with the actual material.
