How to Choose a Wire Twisting and Tinning Machine
Choose wire twisting and tinning equipment by conductor construction, strip condition, tinning specification, flux control, finished-end geometry and automation level.

Choose the process from the required finished conductor end, not from the word “tinning.” Twisting gathers strands; tinning adds solder. A product may require one, both or neither.

Confirm the termination standard before selecting equipment. A tinned end should not be substituted for a ferrule or crimp simply because it looks neat.
Match the production architecture

Specify the solder process
Record alloy, flux, bath temperature or heating method, immersion depth, dwell, withdrawal behavior and cleaning requirement. Acceptance should cover:
- complete wetting where specified;
- maximum solder travel under the insulation;
- no burnt insulation or excessive residue;
- finished-end length and diameter;
- strand integrity before and after processing.

Questions engineers ask
Should every stripped stranded wire be tinned?
No. Tinning is appropriate only when the termination and product specification require it. Many crimp specifications prohibit pre-tinned strands because solder can change strand behavior and long-term compression.
What information is needed to select a tinning machine?
Provide conductor material and construction, wire size, strip length, required twisted length, flux and solder specification, tinning depth, allowed solder travel, finished-end drawing and target product mix.
When should twisting and tinning be integrated with cutting and stripping?
Integration suits stable repeat products supplied from a reel. High-mix work, manual orientation or products requiring frequent solder-process changes may be easier to control in a separate semi-automatic cell.
